I came across Barbara Barry while I was roaming ABC Carpets & Home in search for something retro.
I am not sure what made me wander up to the fifth floor -- when what I needed was on the second -- but there I was up to my elbows in French antiques.
Behind the scene of withered sofas and mirrored dressers, was a design style that just didn’t seem to fit with its frumpy surroundings.
Carved into the back corner of the store, Barbara Barry’s collection was reminiscent of 30’s
Hollywood glam.
Everything from the sculpted tables to the plush seating, said “I am too damn expensive for the Ikea shopper.”
I sat back in the surprisingly comfortable sofa and closed my eyes.
In seconds I was transported to a time of sophistication and elegance -- where women always wore gloves, and tails were considered proper evening attire.
Unfortunately, just when I was about to loose myself in the era, the sales woman tapped me on the shoulder. Apparently dozing of in a retail outlet was frowned upon by ABC Carpets & Home.
Feel free to enjoy the collection in the comfort of your own home-- sans nagging sales people-- by visiting their website at www.barbarabarry.com
